Referee Assistant uses the following terms as part of the assignment process.
System of Control refers to the officiating scheme assigned to a particular game, specifically, the number(s) and types(s) of officials assigned. In soccer, there are four generally-accepted systems of control: solo (one referee), dual (two referees), diagonal (one referee and two assistant referees), and diagonal plus a fourth official. Other sports will have other types of systems of control, which can all be defined within the database.
An assignor is an individual responsible for assigning referees to officiate a game.
An administrator is an individual responsible for paying referee fees. Each team can optionally be assigned to one administrator
An Age Group defines the age category of a particular game. Age Groups define a game's length, referee fees, assignor fees, and game difficulty.
Position refers to one of the officiating assignments in a game (referee, assistant referee, fourth official). A position is used to describe a set of officiating skills and a set of game fees.
Game Difficulty is a numeric value assigned to each Age Group. The Game Difficulty is used to indicate relative difficulty, as compared to other age groups a referee may officiate. Each game is assigned to an Age Group, and the game inherits the age group's difficulty rating. If referee ability levels are used, referees can only work games with a difficulty score between his/her "Low" and "High" abiliity rating scores.
Referee Ability is a set of three numeric values assigned to each referee, and to each position. These values determine the relative skill level of the referee at each position, and what games the referee is qualified to work. For each position, a referee is rated with a low, high and preferred ability score. Referees can only work games that have a difficulty rating between the low and high difficulty rating for the position.
Game Type is a broad category that defines a grouping of games (such as Youth, Adult, High School Varsity, High School JV, Intramural)
Referee Grade refers to the certification level or "badge level" held by a referee. Referee Grade is not used for determining a referee's eligibility to work a game.
Referee Availability refers to the day(s) and time(s) that a referee is unavailable to officiate.
